How to knot a tie: the basics

Have you ever wondered why some men do not wear tie? It is not because they dsilike ties, but truthfully because they do not know how to knot a tie. Some ladies know how to knot ties more than the men folks. This video is a must watch for everyone, as it would give one the practical steps needed to knot a tie. We found a lot of videos on how to knot ties, but our choice for this video was determined by the greater number of views (29,268,210 views), likes (67, 648) and subscriptions (49,475) the video attracted over other related videos as at 31st October, 2016. Enjoy!

Welcoming the fresh students

We heartily welcome the first year students of the 2016/2017 academic session. We have found that most of these new students do not know their left from their right. This is because of lack of orientation. The orientation is coming soon and we hope our students visit the library often, especially after the orientation programme where our University Librarian would unleash our packages. We have a cosy browsing arena for all of you. You may wish to visit our library website: www.library.unn.edu.ng

UNN Library Internship Students- Finishing strong!

The library wishes to thank all the Intern students from the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Nigeria, Nsukka and other Universities like Michael Okpala University, Umudike, University of Benin and others, who have invested their time and energy in helping out with work in the library. They were all deployed to the various sections of the library, including the Bindery section. Here we have some of them after the cut...

Now, this is Miss Ujunwa, an elegant staff or more like it, intern who currently serves in the Africana Section. As seen in the picture on the left, she has been engrossed with ensuring these projects get processed and users access them. Africana Section of the library is one of the busiest sections in the library that attracts several users on a daily basis due to the nature of material the section houses such as Projects, Theses and Dissertations, Biafrana materials and Achebeana. Probably during the forthcoming Founders' Day Celebration, there would be another Unit created from the Africana Section...Let's keep our fingers crossed. The Biafrana materials are currently being digitized for posterity and preservation and uploaded in the Institutional Repository (IR) of the University. These materials are very rich contents which may not be found elsewhere. They are materials written about Biafra, especially during the times of Biafra. Most of them are brittling away and so, the library decided to digitize them for users to gain access easily for maximum utilization. Users from other Universities do visit the Africana section to consult projects and other useful materials. The staff of the section are eager to deliver to users and are warm in reception. These Intern students are for sure, going to miss their stay in the section. The picture might be deceptive because males are also part of the internship venture. Interviewing some of these students, we have some of their comments:

''We have really enjoyed our stay and have learnt a lot working in Nnamdi Azikiwe Library, University of Nigeria, Nsukka...we've learnt so much that money cannot buy. It is not all about money, but what can you carry out to the world that could help you solve problems outside there. We have met with very interesting staff that were very warm to us and willing to answer our queries whenever we have them, and we always do. Coming to the challenges, we really had a great challenge with staying back when the school was not in session due to accommodation squabbles, but in all we thank God  and pray we get good grades afterall'

SOLAR ECLIPSE ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 01, 2016

On September 1, 2016, the moon will pass in front of the sun, creating a brilliant ring of sunlight visible from Nsukka.
When the moon creates a ring of sunlight during an eclipse instead of completely blocking the solar disk, it's known as an annular eclipse. And although the September 1 event won't be a total eclipse of the sun (from south eastern part of the country), it will still be a stunning sight of partial solar eclipse.

For those interested in watching this eclipse event, the Astronomy and Astrophysics Research Group of this University is making special viewing glasses (eclipse glass) available at the Christ Church Chapel field, UNN, starting by 7.30am (Please, never look directly at the sun with your unprotected eyes!). Viewers will be able to see the moon cross paths with the sun on Sept. 1 (Thursday) between 8 – 9 a.m.
For further information or enquiries, please call any of the following numbers: 08037734303, 08039555777, 08050764262 and 08034376366.
